FrameMaker Workshop - STC RMC’s First Collaborative

Question: What summer Saturday event could possibly elicit such great comments?

“Let’s do it again!”

“Great overall outline—lots of homework!”

“I so appreciate your altering the class so that it met the needs of beginning and advanced users. Thank you!”

“Excellent class—good coverage on a variety of involved topics”

Answer: The STC RMC FrameMaker workshop that was held June 3, 2006, at Metropolitan State College. This was the first time we’ve collaborated with Metro State to hold a “tools” seminar at their campus. Kathy O’Donnell and other leaders at the university helped greatly with all the paperwork, red tape, and general details.

Heroes of the workshop. Left to Right: Tammy VanBoening, Bette Frick, Linda Gallagher, and Larry Prado

Other true heroes were STC RMC members Linda Gallagher, Larry Prado, and Tammy VanBoening. What was so neat about their planning was how they developed the course from scratch…and accommodated all levels of learners. There were several opportunities for more advanced learners to go into small breakout sessions with one of the instructors, while the rest of the class plowed through the general curriculum. With three instructors, all learners were able to get individual help if they needed it.

Attendees of the workshop hard at work

I have never before seen such a well-planned curriculum with such attention to the individual learner, and I’ve been designing, developing, and observing training classes for 20 years. My hat is off to these wonderful members who gave so much of their own time and energy to help individual members and our community. If you see them at a meeting, be sure to thank them for all their hard work—and stay tuned for our next “tools” workshop, probably in January.
