Tenure-Track Assistant Professor
Public Communication and Social Influence

Colorado State University seeks an assistant professor (tenure track) with research interests in public communication and social influence processes. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching interests in public relations and/or publication management and design. The successful candidate will develop or continue a relevant social-science-based research program. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated research interests in health, environmental, public safety, and/or risk communication. The candidate will have a 2/2 teaching load and will contribute to the department’s graduate and undergraduate programs through teaching and advising students.

Potential for excellence in teaching is required, as is professional communication experience. Professional communication experience should complement one or more of the department’s teaching areas: public relations, magazine, news/editorial, technical/scientific communication, television news and video production, and computer-mediated communication. Previous college teaching experience preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching interests in public relations and/or publication management and design, and to candidates with demonstrated research interests in health, environmental, public safety, and/or risk communication. The potential for extramural funding is also a plus. Ph.D. in communication, journalism/mass communication, or related field, with a focus on public communication and social influence processes, required by August 15, 2006.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for defining and developing the Crosswalk product information in a useful and logical format.
  • Provide a strong operational content by working and reviewing with the Crosswalk development organization and development partners. Pull from, or refer to required parts from partner’s documentation to ensure a clear understanding for the end customer.
  • Create logical installation and service reference guides for use of customers, Crosswalk and outside service organizations.
  • Include illustrations, diagrams, charts, tables and any other visual aids as appropriate to help convey the required idea or thought.

Requirements/Preferred Experience:

  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Expertise in documenting complicated technology and networking products.
  • Experience documenting the use and operation of software products is desired.
  • Experience with FrameMaker, MS Word, Excel, and Visio.
  • Experience with writing and editing HTML-based documentation.
  • Able to sort and logically arrange information effectively.
  • Must be able to have a strong working relationship with:
