George Hoerter Elected Fellow
George E. Hoerter had a great year in 1994: first, he was recognized and honored as a Fellow, and, if that wasn't enough, George also received the STC President's Award that year.
His Fellows plaque reads, "For exemplary leadership as an editor, supervisor, and a publication manager at Martin Marietta Astronautics Group; for distinguished performance in numerous chapter posts; and for notable contributions to the Society at the international level, particularly to conferences and financial affairs."
The STC President's Award plaque states, "For many years of responsible service to the profession of technical communication, for sustained leadership in advancing the financial strength of the Society, and for devotion to the management of chapters and conferences."
George was elected and served as Society Treasurer from 1987 to 1991, and was appointed Society Assistant Treasurer from 1991 to 1995. He was a Conference Finance Manager; a member of the Compensation Policy, Finance, Transformation Finance, and Conference Advisory committees; and Co-Manager of the Chapter and Regional Conference Committee. Hoerter attended 16 annual conferences, presented 5 times, and moderated 5 sessions.
George was chapter treasurer from 1991 to 1997. In addition, he fulfilled the roles of STC RMC vice president, president, and immediate past president from 1984 to 1988. George also served the chapter as a competition judge, conference speaker, membership manager, and scholarship manager.
The Rocky Mountain Chapter established the "George E. Hoerter Professional Development/Award/Scholarship" in 1990 in recognition of his contribution to the chapter and his international service as Society Treasurer.
George is retired after 37 years working for Martin Marietta Astronautics Group.
He is a member of the Rocky Mountain Chapter and the AccessAbility SIG.
