STC RMC awards and honors

The STC Rocky Mountain Chapter is proud of its award winning members and contributions to the society. The following awards and honors represent the STC Rocky Mountain Chapter.

2007 Community of Excellence

Announced at the Society for Technical Communication annual convention, the award reads, "Community of Excellence presented to the Rocky Mountain Chapter for strong support of two satellite groups, allowing them the advantages of a larger community." Chapter President Deb Lockwood thanked the chapter leadership for its hard work and gave special thanks to Carmen Carmack for submitting the Community Achievement Award application that lead to the award.

2007 Jay R. Gould Award for Excellence in Teaching Technical Communication

Jay R. Gould Award Recipient: Donald E. Zimmerman, STC Fellow and professor of technical journalism at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado.

The Jay R. Gould Award for excellence in teaching technical communication honors the distinguished teaching career of Professor Gould, whose academic mentorship of technical communication students guided many men and women into the profession. The award honors excellence in teaching that becomes true academic mentorship: the personal and professional concern that the best teachers extend to their students beyond the demands of the classroom and beyond even graduation as former students continue to grow throughout their professional careers.

2003 - Chapter Achievement Award of Excellence

In 2003, the Rocky Mountain Chapter received a Chapter Achievement Award of Excellence at the international level during the Awards Banquet at the STC Annual Conference. Martha Sippel accepted the award on behalf of STC RMC. The chapter won this award through the contributions and efforts of our officers, committee managers, committee members, judges, speakers, and everyone else who helped with a Chapter activity. Thanks to everyone's hard work, the STC RMC is maintaining our high standards by continuing to receive international awards for our activities and efforts. This award reflects all of the great things that we have accomplished for STC RMC members from June 2002 through June 2003.

2001 - Chapter of Excellence, Distinguished Chapter

In 2001, the Rocky Mountain Chapter received two awards at the Awards Banquet at the STC Annual Conference. David Garrett and Martha Sippel (our incoming president and vice president, respectively) were there to accept the awards on our behalf. First, we won a chapter of excellence award. (Other chapters also won this award.)

From this pool of excellence winners, the distinguished chapter was awarded – one distinguished for each chapter size range. The Rocky Mountain Chapter won for the 600+ size. We will receive a distinguished plaque later. David has the certificate for excellence award. The citation (for both awards) reads, "For outstanding leadership and service to STC members, especially in the area of professional development."

We won these awards through the hard work of everyone on our administrative council (made up of our officers and committee managers), committee members, judges, speakers, and anyone else who helped with a Chapter activity. Thanks to everyone for their efforts. The awards reflect all of the great things that we have accomplished in the last year for our Chapter members.

2000 - Chapter PaceSetter Award

In 2000, STC honored the chapter with it's Chapter Pacesetter award which acknowledges a professional or student chapter's contributions to the society's goals through a single innovative and effective program or activity. The STC RMC pioneered a database system for its newsletter, Web site, competitions, discussion list server, membership, and volunteers.
