STC RMC activitiesThis page provides a general overview of the chapter's activities. MeetingsThe chapter generally meets the third Thursday of every month, except during the months of July, August, and December. The March meeting is generally for senior members, associate fellows, and fellows and is by invitation only. Meetings activities begin at 6:00 pm with a combination of new member orientation, networking and snacking, and SIG presentations. The main program runs from 7 - 9 pm. Meetings take place at the Tivoli Student Union on the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver. We generally have a catered dinner, but a program-only purchase is available. Job lineThe Rocky Mountain Chapter's job line lists openings for technical communication jobs in the area. If you are an employer, please contact the jobs manager to list a job. Please include "STC RMC Job" in the subject line of e-mail messages. We also provide a set of job-search pages, including direct links to corporate career pages and links to national and international job-search URLs. Classes and conferencesIn addition to informational meetings, the chapter hosts workshops and seminars throughout the year. We will be offering several workshops this year. Mentoring programThe chapter is renewing its mentoring program, and the Mentoring Committee is actively seeking both mentors and mentorees. The committee's role is to help mentors and mentorees connect. Committee members will review requests and provide each mentoree with a list of one or more possible mentors whose skills match the needs presented. It will be up to the mentoree to contact the potential mentor(s) and together define the nature and duration of the mentoring relationship. Contact the Mentoring Committee Manager for more information. CompetitionsFor a variety of reasons, the Rocky Mountain Community has chosen to not hold art, publications, and online competitions for the foreseeable future. If the chapter has enough volunteers and resources in the future, we will re-establish this vital part of chapter operations. We will endeavor to help our members, as well as non-members, find other chapters that are hosting competitions to take any entries. NewsletterThe b-monthly chapter newsletter, Technicalities, went online as an e-newsletter effective with the October/November 2002 issue. A link to the current issue always appears on the website home page; archived issues are available on the newsletter archives page. To submit articles, contact the newsletter manager. Electronic mailing listThe chapter hosts lively discussions on the chapter's electronic mailing list. Special interest groups (SIGs)The chapter currently has three active special interest groups:
For more information on these SIGs, contact the appropriate SIG manager. ScholarshipsThe George Hoerter Scholarship is available to undergraduates and graduates working on a college degree in technical communication. For more information, contact the education manager. Volunteer opportunitiesSTC RMC is an active chapter with many volunteers. Members have the opportunity to gain project management and other skills not always available on the job. To volunteer for chapter activities, contact a chapter officer or manager. Comments?
